  Water Polo

Water Polo is one of the activities supported by the Welsh A.S.A. for male and female athletes at junior and senior level.

Mini-polo is an introductory game developed by the A.S.A. for younger participants and is offered by some of the Local Authority schemes.

There is no need to buy and feed a pony to take part, as the game is a cross between basketball and football played in water by teams of up to 13 players, of who up to 7 take it in turns to be in the water. Participants need to be competent swimmers as most of the game is played in deep (1.8 metre plus) water.

A football size ball (with a slightly roughened surface) is passed between team members using one hand only until the team is in a position to try to shoot the ball past the goalkeeper. A team is only allowed possession for 35 seconds at a time before attempting to score a goal. A game normally consists of 4 quarters lasting 5 to 7 minutes each.
