Water dragons

The Aqua Passport is our pathway programme for young athletes in aquatics. Our Dragontots, Dragonflies and Water Dragons clubs are a springboard into the wonderful and exciting world of water in Wales. Our Dragon tots, Dragon flies and Water Dragons are used as educational tools along the way to aquatic competence.

As a learner in our Aqua Passport programme you are supported every step of the way through the ‘learn to swim’ programme in your local Dragonmark approved centre.

By using the Aqua Passport you can have confidence that Swim Wales will be with you every step of the way through your journey into aquatics.

The passport helps the athlete develop skills in competitive swimming, water polo, synchronised swimming, rookie lifeguards and diving.

We have three individual booklets contained within the passport, one for each dragon.

This booklet covers the first three stages of the national plan. It also includes advice on the water safety code, tips for parents to help improve learning and a game to promote safe methods of entry. Swimmers collect stickers as they complete each stage.

The Dragon flies booklet covers the next four stages and offers the learner advice on exercise before entering the pool, has a game to identify each of the four strokes and shows treading water and sculling. Swimmers collect stickers as they complete each stage.

This booklet covers the last 3 stages for each of the disciplines within the National Plan. It has exciting images of the skills in action and encourages the water dragon to join their local club.

We will offer every new tot member a real live dragon tot on a key ring and as tots become flies we will offer them a dragonflies swimming hat. Our exclusive Water Dragons T Shirts, pin badges and caps offer the new Water Dragon a full pack of goodies as well as a whole year’s membership to Swim Wales.

Joining the scheme is easy. We offer a fully integrated with Gladstone MRM we are therefore able to offer detailed data analysis for facilities using this system. Every tot and fly member of the scheme pays £5 per annum with our data monitoring retention and throughput to help ensure minimum waiting times to join the scheme and the identify points in the system which need most support.
